How to add chat, alerts and overlays to an iPhone stream
Updated · 2 min read · By Suhail Saqan
Quick answer
In Swae, your first Twitch or Kick stream gets chat and alerts on screen automatically. To add more, tap ⋯ (More tools) to open the drawer, tap Edit scene, then Add, and pick a layer: Chat, Alerts, Goal bar, Recent events, Text, Image, Web page or QR code. Tap Done. Your StreamElements or Streamlabs alerts work too: paste their overlay link into an Alerts layer.
What you can put on stream
| Layer | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Chat | Every platform's chat in one feed: Twitch, Kick, YouTube and Rumble. |
| Alerts | Follows, subs, raids, cheers and more, with sound. Swae's own, or StreamElements and Streamlabs. |
| Goal bar | Fills with follows or subs. |
| Recent events | The latest follows and subs. |
| Text | Your words, a clock or a timer, or live numbers like viewers, speed and distance. |
| Second camera | The front camera or a GoPro, in a corner. |
| Map | Where you are, live. |
| Image | A logo, photo or GIF. |
| Web page | Any web page, live: an overlay, a widget, a scoreboard. |
| QR code | For viewers to scan. |
Add a layer
- Open the drawer. On the camera, tap ⋯ (More tools) on the side buttons.
- Edit the scene. Under Scene, tap Edit scene. (Looks, next to it, restyles everything at once.)
- Add a layer. Tap Add at the bottom. "What goes on your stream?" lists the layers.
- Pick one and place it. Choose a layer, then drag it where you want it on the picture.
- Save. Tap Done. The layer is part of this scene from now on.
Use your StreamElements or Streamlabs alerts
Already have alerts you love? Keep them. Swae draws their events on your stream.
- Add an Alerts layer as above, and open it.
- Pick the service under Where alerts come from: StreamElements, Streamlabs, or Another overlay link.
- Copy the link. On StreamElements, open My overlays (under Streaming tools) and tap Copy URL. On Streamlabs, open Alert Box (under All widgets) and copy the Widget URL.
- Paste it. Back in Swae, tap Paste.
Keep your overlay links private. Anyone with a StreamElements or Streamlabs overlay link can see your alerts. Paste it into Swae, and don't share it in chat.
Moderate from the camera
Tap any message on the camera screen. On Twitch and Kick you can delete it, time the person out for 1 minute, 10 minutes or an hour, hold to ban, or reply. Chat guard can keep messages off your stream before anyone sees them, with banned words and timeouts for repeat offenders.
Questions
Do I need OBS or a PC for overlays?
No. Swae draws every layer on your iPhone, live, and sends the finished picture to your platforms.
Does chat from every platform show at once?
Yes. When you multistream, the Chat layer shows Twitch, Kick, YouTube and Rumble chat together, in one feed.
Do viewers on every platform see the overlays?
Yes. Layers are part of the picture Swae sends, so every platform you're live on gets the same stream, overlays and all.
