How to go live on Twitch from your iPhone

Quick answer
Get Swae, tap SET UP on the camera and pick Twitch. Sign in to Twitch in its own window: Swae gets your stream key for you, with nothing to copy. Choose how you'll hold your phone and tap Done. Then tap GO LIVE, check your title and category, and tap GO LIVE again. After a 3-2-1 countdown, you're live on Twitch.
What you need
- A Twitch account.
- An iPhone with iOS 18 or later, and Swae (free).
- A good upload: Wi‑Fi, or 5G or LTE with a few bars. Swae adjusts the quality to your connection.
Go live on Twitch, step by step
- Open Swae and tap SET UP. On the camera, the round button says SET UP until you've added a platform. Tap it, and pick Twitch under "Where do you want to go live?"
- Sign in to Twitch. Twitch's sign-in opens in its own secure window, so Swae never sees your password. Swae then gets your stream key from Twitch by itself.
- Choose how you'll hold your phone. Upright fills a phone screen, sideways fills a computer or TV. Upright is recommended.
- Tap Done. Or Practice first to try it with nothing going out.
- Tap GO LIVE. The Going live review opens: your title, your Twitch category, and checks for the camera, microphone, network, storage and heat.
- Go live. Tap GO LIVE in the review. After a 3-2-1 countdown, you're live. Your Twitch chat shows in Swae, and the first time, your stream gets chat and alerts on screen in the Swae look.
To end the stream, hold the live button for a moment. Swae counts down from 3, so a mistaken press can still be undone with a tap.
Change your title and category
Set them in the Going live review before you start, or while you're live from the drawer with Title & category and Update. They're also in Settings › Accounts › Twitch, under What viewers see on Twitch. Swae changes them on Twitch for you; there's no need to open the Twitch app.
Settings that work on Twitch
| Setting | Use |
|---|---|
| Quality | Automatic. Swae lowers the bitrate when your network slows and raises it again, up to 6 Mbps on Twitch. |
| Resolution | 1080p: sharp on phones, computers and TVs. |
| Frame rate | 30 suits most streams; 60 is smoother for fast action but needs more upload. |
| Orientation | Upright for IRL and phone viewers; sideways for viewers on TVs and computers. |
Twitch's own broadcasting guidelines suggest 6,000 kbps for 1080p at 60 fps and 4,500 kbps at 30 fps, with a keyframe every 2 seconds. Swae's automatic quality never sends Twitch more than 6,000 kbps.
Swae or the Twitch app?
The Twitch app can go live from your phone's camera with no stream key, which is fine for a quick hello. Swae is built for the whole show: scenes you switch between live, chat and alerts drawn on the stream, effects, other cameras like a GoPro or Meta glasses, and going live on Kick and YouTube at the same time. And with Swae Relay, your stream survives a dead zone.
If something goes wrong
- "Sign in to Twitch again": open Settings › Accounts › Twitch and sign in. Your stream settings stay as they were.
- The stream key didn't come through: copy your Primary Stream key from the Twitch Creator Dashboard (Settings › Stream) and paste it into the box Swae shows.
- The picture freezes on cellular: leave quality on Automatic, and turn on "Alert me if my stream drops" in the review. For streams on the move, use Swae Relay.
- Viewers see you a few seconds late: that's normal on Twitch, for every streamer.
Questions
Do I need a stream key to stream to Twitch from my iPhone?
Not with Swae. You sign in to Twitch, and Swae gets your stream key from Twitch for you. You only paste one if Twitch doesn't hand it over.
Can I put alerts and chat on my Twitch stream from my phone?
Yes. Your first Twitch stream in Swae gets chat and alerts on screen automatically, and you can add a goal bar, recent events, text, images and web pages. Your StreamElements or Streamlabs alerts work too.
Can I stream to Twitch and Kick at the same time?
Yes, and Twitch allows it, with conditions: Twitch viewers must get a stream at least as good as anywhere else, and your Twitch stream can't show other platforms' chat or activity. Swae shows every platform's chat to you, and its Chat layer can show Twitch's alone. How to multistream.
Is it free?
Yes. Swae is free, with every scene, layer, effect and camera. Swae Relay, for streams that must not drop and for one upload to every platform, is optional.
